Planning Applications

The planning process is a key stage in developing our Greenway routes and taking them forward to eventual construction. We encourage everyone to visit the local authority planning portal and submit comments in support of the schemes.

Current applications include:

Planning application for Link to Waddesdon School – application no.23/00777/APP

Planning granted and path constructed and opened Autumn 2023. See the planning application here.

The Brislington Tramway Link

Planning granted – but site ownership changed. Bristol City Council Planning 21/00894/FUL.  This 1km long section of path along an old railway would link the existing Whitchurch Way to the River Avon Path and the centre of Bristol.  This project includes a key railway bridge under the very busy A4 Bath Road. You can view the Planning Application document here and the updated ecology document here.

The Dean Forest Greenway

West Dean Parish Council have taken over this project. Dean District Council P1913/21/FUL.  This Greenway would have connected Parkend to Lydney over a 5km route, which bypasses the main road.  You can view the Planning Application document here.

The Shepton Viaducts Project

Permission granted, and western section completed October 2023. Eastern section awaits landowners consent. Mendip District Council 2021/2805/FUL.  This 3km long project runs along the former Somerset and Dorset Railway over one of its most interesting sections where the line climbs at a gradient of 1:50 towards its summit crossing of the Mendips.  Our section includes Hamwood and Bath Road Viaducts as well as Windsor Hill Tunnel.  This Greenway will be a memorable local resource as well as a further section of the Somerset Circle Vision.
