Greenways and Cycleroutes Workcamp 2022

All being well, we aim to hold our sixth Greenways Workcamp from 10 to 17 September (working days), with Friday 9 September as our set-up day and Sunday 18 September as our dismantling day. We will be carrying out preliminary work on a railway route near Shepton Mallet in Somerset. A copy of the current project document to whet your appetite can be seen here. There are two viaducts and a modest tunnel, and we will be carrying out clearance and preliminary repair and boundary works, with a view to seeing the route built next year.

The camp will be based in a delightful grassy-bottomed ex-quarry thanks to the generosity of one of our local volunteers (Rock farm, Windsor Hill Lane, Shepton Mallet BA4 4JE).

Those of you who have joined us on previous camps will be delighted that Chris and Claire Grimshaw have agreed to feed and water us. We will be hiring portaloos and basic showers. There are no cabins, but the quarry provides lots of level space for tents, vans and campfires, and is quiet and very secluded.

Public transport is not great in the area, and it really needs more cycle routes.
