This 1.5km project lies at the heart of the Strawberry Line revival. Local residents have driven this project and it has been a privilege to be working with such a committed group. They have dealt with the policies, won over the landowners, planted the hedges, added benches and maintain the path.
This section funded by Mendip District Council involved substantial earthworks to climb a total of 16m from crossing Erlon Lane below the original bridge level (long removed) and reaching Ebbor Lane above the floor of a deep cutting. Local contractors, Goldings, did fine work in cutting through the dolomitic conglomerates in this area. The 700mm rainfall between November 2023 and March 2024 proved challenging and additional drainage has been installed to deal with the run off from the Mendips.
