Construction work started on the Dulcote Quarry link in September 2021 and was opened in March 2022. Somerset County Council gave their consent as landowners, Mendip Council arranged the funding, and the contractors were local firm Goldings.
Greenways and Cycleroutes Limited has been working with the Strawberry Line Extension team to see the existing Strawberry Line from Yatton to Cheddar extended to Wells and beyond. The Strawberry Line team set things in motion, and attracted huge public interest in the route through fundraising and volunteering. Greenways joined them to advise on route planning and land negotiations and to make planning applications. Planning permission was secured in 2020.
The Grand Opening – 4th March 2022
Annie Maw, Lord Lieutenant of Somerset, opens the path – as she did for Greenways first path in Brean in 2017.

Ros Wyke, Leader of Mendip District Council, presents tools as a thank you to the volunteers for all the work to make the new path possible.

On 3 September we obtained final consents for a route linking the existing cycle path from Wells to Dulcote Quarry. The route was the idea of the Strawberry Line group, has been designed by Greenways, funded by Mendip and local contractors Goldings have started work.
