Dean Forest Greenway

We are excited to have been asked by the local Parish Councils to design a route between Lydney and Park End, connecting to the extensive family cycleroutes in the Forest of Dean.

In November 2020 we submitted a planning application on behalf of West Dean Parish Council, at the suggestion of Gloucestershire County Council, as they were trying to secure funding. The funding from central govenment has now alas evaporated. You can view that report here.

We had aimed to wait until Natural England had advised us how much more we needed to include on the ecological side. We now have their comments, and will be carrying out additional ecological studies, particularly on bats.  The original planning application was withdrawn and resubmitted in November 2021.

There have been many proposals over the last 30 years, but none has quite met the objectives of being reasonably level, direct, quiet and possible. We are optimistic that we have come up with something that meets all these criteria, to make a valuable route for residents and visitors.

Local volunteers are welcome to contact John Linden if they would like to get involved: drjlinden@gmail.com
