Across the country, there are numerous examples of local community groups trying to piece together good quality traffic-free paths to avoid the main road which sever and isolate their areas. We endeavour to provide support and encouragement where possible, by walking the proposed routes to discuss details and options, and by association to bolster our common cause.
Recent such projects include the following:
Curry Rivel and Langport to avoid the A378 and encourage active travel. This link mostly makes use of existing stone tracks but requires essential new links for continuity – link to be provided soon.
Silverstone, Syresham and Brackley is being promoted by the South Northants Active Travel Group to create a high-quality route to avoid the A43 trunk road – link to be provided soon.
We have looked at the route with the Group is some detail and incorporated it into the overall vision for the Buckinghamshire Greenway and community links associated with HS2.
Avon and Arrow Greenway plans to link Evesham and Alcester avoiding the A46 as well as Bideford-on-Avon to Stratford-on-Avon, all via the remains of former railways where possible – link to be provided soon.
The Friends of Bennerley Viaduct cry out for special attention in regard to their achievement at opening a path over this historic viaduct. Click here for the dedicated website.
