On 21 January 2016 Greenways and Cycleroutes Limited was founded. Since then we have surveyed, designed, funded, built and opened the Brean Down Way, the Waddesdon Greenway, the Berrow Greenway and the Ashton Court Greenway; and the Wye Valley Greenway is nearing completion.
We have planning permission and funding in place for three further routes: in Bucks, a link from Aylesbury Vale Parkway station into Aylesburyand a route from Great Missenden to Wendover; and in Somerset the final link from Wells to Dulcote quarry. We are carrying out further ecological studies on the Dean Forest Greenway linking Lydney and Parkend. We are working with Mendip Council and on possible routes in Bristol, Bucks, Devon, Derbyshire and North Somerset.
We wanted to celebrate our birthday by saying thank you to those who have helped us make this possible: as volunteers, cooks and bottle washers, surveyors, ecologists, contractors, suppliers, land-owners, by making donations and in many other ways too, and by simply willing us to succeed.
Some of you have been involved from the start, when the Brean Down Way seemed an impossible dream; some joined us for the Waddesdon Greenway, or for Ashton Court; others have only come across us as builders of the Wye Valley Greenway, at a time when the route from Lydney to Parkend in the Forest of Dean feels like a dream.
To all of you, our thanks. We hope you have shared our satisfaction in making these routes possible, in enjoying walking and cycling along them, and in encouraging others to do the same.
We look forward to the next five years, with your help.
Caroline and John
